GRAVEYARD INFORMATION

We have applied several times for the graveyard plan so that we can see who is buried where. We have been told that it was sent to Coseley Archives but they do not have it. If we can obtain the graveyard plan, which must exist somewhere, it will help people doing family tree research and help us with tourist/visitor information. We do have access to the memorial inscriptions book.

We have made a small start on remapping the graveyard - if you could help please contact us. We have the outline plan of the original graveyard layout, still amazingly unaltered and accurate, which will help us with the re-mapping exercise.

We are also trying to put stories to every grave at St John's - all information gratefully received

Famous graves at St John's include:

The Tipton Slasher - Champion bare fist fighter of England 1850-1857

Mary Ann Mason - murdered 1858 by Joseph Meadows. Possibly the only gravestone in England to show the name of the murderer. Joseph Meadows was the last but one person to be hung in Worcester Gaol.

Marion Richardson (Handwriting and art - under bramble somewhere, does anyone know the location)

William Masefield - famous Mason - grave not located yet, information needed.
