MAKE A DONATION
FIRST OF ALL, A CLARIFICATION OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DONATING TO 'ST JOHN'S CHURCH' AND DONATING TO 'ST JOHN'S CHURCH PRESERVATION GROUP':
Donations to 'St Johns Church', for example the collection at services, go towards the cost of maintaining the Parish Hall and other Parish Costs, including payments to the Diocese.
St John's Church Preservation Group agrees with supporting the Parish in this way as in future we hope to be allowed to use the Parish Hall for fundraising activities so it is also in our interest that the Parish Hall building be maintained.
However, if your intention is to help restore and re-open St John's Church donations to 'St John's Church Preservation Group' are used specifically for the campaign and work towards the restoration and bringing back into use the St John's Church Building and associated work, for full details and to avoid duplication please see page on your left 'Our Vision'.
Preservation Group funds cannot be spent without a committee decision and our accounts will be made available annually at our AGM.
HOW MUCH MIGHT WE HAVE TO RAISE?
Although we cannot yet have an exact plan of work and costings, we have reason to believe that to repair and modernise St John's church will cost considerably less than the £1 - £2 million figure which has been mooted in the press by the Church of England. The results of the English Heritage survey in 2005 showed that the building was basically sound and basic repairs could be carried out for £126,000 excluding decoration, heating, fees etc. Ongoing maintenance and running costs will be on top of the restoration cost. We intend to help fund running costs as well as restoration costs.
We are currently preparing an application to have the building listed by English Heritage. If we are successful in this it will help with obtaining grants. If we are not successful there are other funding sources.
We will also, as a group, apply to be a registered charity as soon as we have received donations totalling £5000, that will also open up more funding possibilities.
We are in need of donations to help fund our fight to save the church. Please help if you can. We spend the minimum amount possible in order to retain money for the restoration, but obviously printing, posters, stamps and events insurance etc cost a lot of money. The committee claim no expenses of any sort, indeed we have been personally funding the group to date.
HOW TO DONATE
Please send a cheque payable to St John's Church Preservation Group, The Old School House, St John's Road, Kates Hill, Dudley, West Midlands, DY2 7JT if you can, or there are collecting boxes in HIGH VIEW FISH BAR and TIWANA, both a few yards away from the church.
We would very much appreciate regular donations and if you are able to complete a standing order please let us know and we will send you one.
WE HOPE TO BE ABLE TO ACCEPT CREDIT/DEBIT CARD DONATIONS SOON.
LEGACIES
Please remember St John's Church in your will if you can but ensure that your solicitor puts 'St John's Church Preservation Group' details not just 'St John's Church' as otherwise the gift may not be used as you intended. We guarantee to use any funds only for the benefit of St John's Church and for no other purpose. These are our charitable objects contained within our constitution.
THANK YOU.
